The Annapurna Oddyssey:
A Journey of Service, Storytelling, Adventure and Living Well
Sailing the open seas as theater for veteran and refugee stories, conversations on dying well, and reflections from the horizon.
The Story Behind the Odyssey
My name is Michael Hansen. I'm a Marine veteran, father, entreprenuer and storyteller seeking meaning after years in war zones and boardrooms.
Despite a great career, I walked away from titles and "success" that felt empty and misaligned with my definition of success. The pinnacle had impact and money—but something was missing. I needed to test myself, shed comforts, and engineer a life aligned with freedom, adventure, and hard-fought growth.
Annapurna became the crucible: a 48' Hans Christian sailboat refit that forced me back into neglected skills, a future circumnavigation as theater for discovery, and a mobile platform for stories and conversations that actually matter.
This journey honors extraordinary personal stories like my father, a Vietnam War medic and conscientious objector whose largely untold legacy shaped how I see service, resilliance, and duty. It's for veterans, refugees, and anyone carrying unseen weights. Through a raw video docuseries, "Dying Well" podcast conversations, and reflections from the horizon, I explore challenge, transformation, and models for living (and dying) well.
No fixed rhythm. No performance. Just documenting what survives when comfort, titles, and certainty is stripped away—together with the people and stories we share throughout the journey.

Veteran & Refugee Storytelling
Raw, cinematic episodes capturing resilience and transformation. Veterans and refugees share their journeys of survival, service, and reinvention—honoring unseen legacies like the stories thsat need to be told.
Shot aboard Annapurna, while sailing around the world, these stories explore what it means to carry weight, overcome adversity and find purpose on the other side.

Dying Well - Video Podcast
Video conversations aboard Annapurna with diverse souls—Fortune 500 founders to sea gypsies and nomads. We explore models for living (and dying) with purpose, meaning, and engineering individual sovereignty. No scripts, no performance—just honest dialogue on what makes life worth living.
Reflections (Writing Series)
Philosophical lessons, travels, and life insights from the adventure. Writings on all things human , service, and reframing chaos. Drawn from hard skills learned through pain, the open sea, and the search for models that reshape who we are and who we may become.
